The Global Risks Report 2025

The World Economic Forum’s report, “The Global Risks Report 2025”, now in its 20th edition, was launched today. Geopolitical, social and technological issues dominate the top 10 short-term risks and environmental risks predominate in the long term.

Disinformation and extreme weather events remain at the top of the list of global risks compared to 2024, but the risks associated with armed conflicts between states also appear in the top three.

Power Barometer 2024

Eurelectric has launched the new edition of the Power Barometer 2024. According to this edition, the electricity sector has seen the biggest ever relative decrease in GHG emissions compared to other sectors, such as manufacturing or transport. In 2023, a 50% cut in these emissions was achieved (compared to 2008), confirming the electricity sector’s leadership in decarbonization at European level.

State of the Energy Union 2024 Report

On 11 September, the European Commission published the ‘State of the Energy Union 2024’ report, which presents the challenges and progress made in the European energy landscape over the past year.
The report highlights the EU’s progress on energy security and the transition to clean energy, despite geopolitical crises. It recognises challenges such as energy poverty and the need for more ambitious renewable energy and energy efficiency targets, and calls for greater coordination between Member States to achieve climate and energy goals by 2030.

On 24 May, Eurelectric published the ‘Wired for tomorrow’ study, which assesses the digital maturity of DSOs across construction, operation and maintenance resources, based on information from more than 31 DSOs covering more than 80M customers in 21 countries.

Wired4Tomorrow outlines a roadmap for how DSOs can harness digital technologies to strengthen network capacity, efficiency and resilience, paving the way for a sustainable energy future.

Communication from the European Commission ‘The EU 2040 climate target towards climate neutrality by 2050 for a sustainable, just and prosperous society’

On 6 February 2024, the European Commission presented a recommendation for a Europe-wide climate target for 2040. The Commission recommended reducing the EU’s net greenhouse gas emissions by 90 % by 2040 compared to 1990.
