ELECPOR took part in the MIBEL 20 Years Conference: ‘MIBEL in the context of European market design’, organised by the Council of Regulators on the occasion of the celebration of 20 years of the Iberian Electricity Market (MIBEL).

Moderated by Elizabeth Sequeira of the CMVM, ELECPOR’s Director General, Maria João Coelho, was part of the panel, along with Marina Serrano González of AELEC, Santiago Gómez Ramos of APPA Renovables and Pedro Amaral Jorge of APREN, on ‘MIBEL, the European Market and the Energy Transition’.

ELECPOR emphasised the importance of the creation of MIBEL and its operation under a system of free competition, with equal participation by market agents and ensuring competitive prices, and also addressed a number of challenges:

• Prices: the need to eliminate the occurrence of market splitting situations as well as the need for price stability and predictability for producers
• The importance of adopting a capacity remuneration mechanism in Portugal, in the context of security of supply, and in coordination with Spain.
